Archived News of the WeekSwine FluIt's hard to watch the news about the Swine Flu without imagining those creepy Mall scenes from Night of the Living Dead or remembering the famous Hieronymus Bosch lithographs of the bubonic plague death wagons carting crumpled bodies away to be burned. Furthermore in an egregious emphasis on the wrong thing, some pork dork decided that it would be bad for the pork industry to call it swine flu and is insisting that we call it H1N1. But, I'm here to give you some ideas of what you can do in these disturbing times. You could stop watching the news, like I did. You could keep affirming your good health, like I do and refuse to accept the blatant fear mongering. And there are also a few preventive actions you can take... "just to make sure" like I am. First of all, stop all sugar. Sugar is known to kill white blood cells for 4 hours and we really need our white blood cells as they kill the bad guys. Remember, alcohol is sugar, so it's not a good time to par-tey. Make sure you keep well hydrated. Or, as Dr. Sherry Rogers likes to say, "Dilution is the solution to pollution." Take your Min-Tran, maybe increasing your dosage to anywhere from 6 to 10 a day for now. It has a bit of iodine in it which kills interlopers, and also has calcium and magnesium which also helps avert infections. Plus kelp which is natural relaxer so you don't dwell so much on the latest news hyperbole, the word "pandemic." The word pandemic in itself is frightening and bespeaks of all manner of horrible things with images of decimated cities and disrupted families and over-run hospitals. Stop right there and DELETE the previous words. Zzzzzt. The word pandemic, FYI, just means that there is a new infectious disease emerging in the world. It doesn't have to be awful - it could actually be quite mild. So, stop thinking the worst. Take extra vitamin D as it is shown to help with immunity. Get in the sun, as it promotes the production of vitamin D. Wash your hands. A lot. Every time you turn around, wash your hands. And try not to rub your eyes or put your fingers in any handy orifices. The vector of H1N1 is human to human, and is usually spread by touch. (Did you know that the very first H1N1 sufferer was a 5 year old boy in Mexico , Edgar Hernandez? His family lives next to a huge pig farm. He's fine now, by the way.) For extra added supplemental protection, you could start taking what I call my Cold Combo: Phytogen, Congaplex and Thymex. You might want to add Olive Leaf to this mix which is a known virus fighter. You could also add Astragalus which is a known immune booster. And a good vitamin C wouldn't be a bad idea either. I have heard homeopaths say that this flu is the type that would respond to Gelsemium and Bryonia. Another suggests Baptisia. This is not my area of expertise, but I wanted to give you the information. Now is a good time to eat very well, and make sure you get plenty of fruits and vegetables. Don't gorge and upset your stomach. Eat lightly. Put nature's antibiotic - raw garlic - on everything. Over 70% of the immune system resides in your stomach so now is the time to keep it well and not over-stuff it on nachos or Doritos or anything else that you guiltily love which may overwhelm your digestive capability. If you take digestive enzymes, now it the time to dig them out and use them. My friend and fellow chiropractor, Craig, has invented a wonderful immune tonic which tastes unspeakably vile. But you will know deep in your gizzard, just by the taste alone, that nothing bad could survive that onerous onslaught. It is a mixture of Echinacea, Gingko and Licorice. It'll make your throat work, your eyes bug out and water and an involuntary groan will escape your lips. Am I a good salesperson, or what? Yes, I take Craig's Mix on a daily basis and love it. And yes, I can get the tonic for you. I also have a special nutritional program that I am recommending esp. for children in order to boost their immunity. You can ask me about that. There is no vaccination - thank God - for this flu, although they are working on one which is supposed to be ready in October. The fact that we can't vaccinate millions is good and I believe this in itself will save quite a few lives. History shows that in the horrible 1918 flu where millions died, those treated naturally with homeopathics and herbs, lived, while those treated with vaccinations, died. Ditto the flu of 1976 which was termed "swine" as well; the vaccinated didn't fare as well. Tamiflu is supposed to work on this strain of flu, but I have read that sometimes the side-effects from the Tamiflu are pretty horrible and that it would be preferable to have the "swine" flu to the "tami" flu. Now is the time to circle the wagons, stay in your family unit and don't travel - especially on those very cheap and getting cheaper flights to Mexico! - unless you have to. Be on the lookout for people who seem sick and stay away from them. Keep your children out of school if the flu is reported there. Don't worry. It will all be fine. I have heard that this "pandemic" will be mild, so let's set it up that way for ourselves.
